and... you also invest the time and energy to provide great info and insight...Just want to say thanks! I'm making my Surtex debut this year - (Booth 679) - working 16 hour days and enjoying every minute.
Art licensing is a business and like any other other commercial enterprise, it requires real work and commitment. Good luck at Surtex!

I think too often creative people don't understand they are also business people . If they started a bookstore or computer repair business they might treat themselves more seriously but as artists they don't. I hope your readers understand that u r trying to shake them into doing the best they can for themselves and your post is a response to the frustration u obviously feel on their behalf. Wish I was ready for surtex ... Hope y'all have a great show.

Tell it like it is, sister, and weed the noncommitted out!
The world needs less whining, and more positive action.
I appreciate your direct candor, your experience, and sharing your truth, with integrity.
I hope your Surtex experience is prosperous.

Thanks Laura - I second your opinions - especially the "exhausted" part... did I mention we are doing the final move to the house on May 30th - the week after SURTEX and day of the Ask Call with Paul Brent? I think it's official - I've lost my mind!

Great post! If it was cheap and easy, we wouldn't have quality products and we'd never make the big bucks. I think the high cost also pushes me to hold off until I'm ready and when I am, it'll push me to create and present my best work. I'm busy making art for kids' books, so licensing is on the back burner. I'm learning and becoming a better artist and I now have the income to invest in myself when I'm ready.

Good luck at Surtex, the wedding, the move (I'm exhausted just thinking about what you have on your plate)!
