I needed to hear this today, thank you Tara!! I recently posted about prepping for the Surtex show and some people contacted me saying I shouldn’t share all my secrets, art, etc. to keep it all under wraps or people will steal my ideas and art. But, I’ve always shared my art as soon as it’s completed and I post it on my website, social media, etc. so that manufacturers and collectors can find it, and it works for me, and works very well! So, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, follow my journey the way I’m planning it and not worry about what anyone else might say. Not that I’m unwilling to take advice, but I’ve been doing this long enough to know what works for me and my business plan and I have to stay true to the path I’ve laid out

Tara, I LOVE this post, because I, too have been struggling with getting new pictures taken for my biz!

For the past year, I’ve been putting it off, because I don’t like the new wrinkles on my face, and the few extra pounds I put on. I keep saying “I’ll do it after I get a tan, get my hair done, lose a few pounds, get a new outfit….”

And that day hasn’t come! So, now you have inspired me to just GET OVER IT and do it!

By the way, I love your new photos. You look beautiful and vibrant and they are very professionally done.

Thanks for sharing your insecurities – now I know I’m not the only one!

Get a few quotes – I found photographer prices really vary. Make sure you pick one whose work you love of course, then ask questions. One thing I loved about Colleen was my commitment was for the shoot and one photo – and it was reasonable. Then I paid per photo – so I went thinking I would get the one and more if I loved them. (Ended up with three obviously) But the amount I knew I HAD to spend wasn’t so high that I cancelled… AND I will be willing to go back again sooner.

Thanks SO much for writing and posting this article Tara. Just what I needed to read to reiterate that spending the money on a photographer will be worth it! Granted it’s a lot of money but the result will be professional as opposed to the now photo I use which was taken by my daughter when she visited me and we spent a day in Sonoma doing wine tastings! My photo, though colorful, isn’t professional. I nearly croaked when I talked to a professional last week who also happens to be my yoga teacher. I am going to do it…put out the $ for a real good photo.
