New and Improved Art Licensing Data Management Software
If you read my eNewsletter, I told you on Tuesday that I’ve been spending a bit of time helping Hal at Camp Software work out any bugs with the new, built-from-the-ground-up version of the Art Licensing Manger Software. It is more flexible and powerful than before. Oh, and it’s a prettier interface too. (We are artists – these things matter!)
The Art Licensing Manager 2 can also work on your iPad or iPhone – as well as both PC and Mac laptops and computers.
I would honestly be lost without this program. It has made my business easier to manage and easier to look at strategically. I no longer have to wade through file folders to confirm what company has what art on what products – assuming of course, that my memory of which folders to look in is good.
I can tell you who pays me the most in royalties. I can tell you what art has been the most successful – when measured in dollars. These things help me decide how to spend my time wisely and build my business.
The bottom line is: if you are licensing your art you need a good organization system.
I don’t recommend this for an artist who ‘wants to license their art’ – wait until you are licensing your art. But when you are, look at this. It is good. It works. I love, love, love it. (Yes, I get a commission if you buy it but I also put dollars and time into creating it so it’s more than fair.)
To have this developed on your own you will spend thousands of dollars. This software is available at a fraction of the cost.
Watch this video for a 5 minute tour of everything it can do.

Regardless of your decision about the Art Licensing Manager software – make sure you have a good system for keeping track of all this information. It is a make-or-break part of any art licensing business!

Did you hear Paul Brent’s trade show prep advice last night?
Paul Brent prepared a great presentation entitled, Ten Ways to Prepare For Your Upcoming Art Licensing Trade Show.
I’m motivated to sit down and rethink my plan – making sure my show experience is the best it can be!
In addition, he weighed in on the following questions:
- How much art do I need for my first art licensing show and how much time do I need to plan for the show?
- What should I bring for manufacturers to see?
- What size art do you show? Do you take originals or prints?
- How do you design your booth and where do you find the things you need?
- Can you be an attendee at a show the first year and still find licensees? How well do characters do at SURTEX?
- Does all art for licensing have to use trendy colors?
- What experience do you look for when hiring a graphic designer?
- How do you create collections – what is your process?
In addition to the hour-long audio, if you order the replay of Paul’s call, you will also receive a 3 page outline with his Ten Ways to Prepare and notes included!
An amazing deal for $25 but you only have to pay $15 if you buy it before 10/30! NOTE: If you purchase the audio, the link opens and plays online. To save the audio to your computer – right click and choose “Save as Source” or “save to…” or whatever save option your computer gives you…
The feedback to the live call was amazing – here is what some people said:
“The hour flew by. I’m glad to have had the chance to be there!”
“Thank U Paul! it’s nice 2 be in the presence of GREATNESS!”
“Thanks, Tara. Paul’s session was excellent with great information for everyone. Experience is STILL the best teacher!”
“Again it was another great session with lots of useful information. I keep expecting the session to be a “heard that before” and each time you surprise me with new info that gets my creative and marketing juices flowing. Thanks for all that you share!”

New Product to keep your Art Licensing Data Organized!
If you are new to the art licensing business, organizing your data might seem like no big deal. You create art, you show it to manufacturers, they license it and you get paid. What’s so hard about that? Nothing when you are starting out and have the mental capacity to remember everything.
But what happens as you grow?
More art… More manufacturers… More contracts… Montracts coming up for renewal… Mew people interested in the same art… Ms it available in that category? Who has licensed that collection again? Where did I jot the notes? Which contract should I look at again?
And don’t forget the art collections – what are the names, are they coded, what are the codes, where is it backed up, have copyrights been submitted, have you received your registration numbers… ?
The data you need to manage and coordinate grows like a snowball rolling down hill – you want to control it as early as possible!

I’m very excited to announce that there is now a solution that is accessible to any artist serious about licensing. I’ve been working with Hal at CampSoftware.com to create a database for my business and from the start, wanted to design something that could work for others as well. (I honestly think he dismissed this idea with a “yeah, yeah, another one of those clients” at first, but then he came around!)
Here’s a video demo of the just released Art Licensing Manager. This product is sold through CampSoftware.com but because I paid to have it developed and decided how it should function, I’ll get a commission for each product sold. (Consider that the FTC disclosure, thanks!) Watch the video then get all the nitty-gritty details over at www.ArtLicensingInfo.com/data.html. You can download a free trial to see how you like it before you commit to buying the full software – what have you got to lose? Check it out today – this has been a business-changing system addition for me and I hope it can be for you as well!
