Product Mock-Up Magic

Product Mock-Up Magic addition – Kitchen and Bath photos

I’ve had a post-it note on my computer for months: Add Kitchen and Bath photos to the Product Mock-Up Magic mix.

Of course there were many other things I needed to do and just wasn’t getting to it.  SO…I got smarter and had the photographer who taught me how to do the original photos join in the fun.

Finding time at a premium, I decided to “Divide (the work). Conquer (the project). Share the Wealth!” (With Bruce, who gets a % of sales) That way I could get the new products out and still keep up with my art – pretty smart, huh?

I also took outsourcing to a new level.  With the first product I was too nervous to use a fulfillment company – I felt the need to control, touch and handle every disk.  I’m so over that now!  After buying padded envelopes, addressing them, getting stamps and running to the mail box on a regular basis, I’m VERY COMFORTABLE with outsourcing the whole thing.

I found a great source that will create, store and ship the products, I can sit back and focus on my work. YEAH!  This is a little off topic but I want you to know that even though I say “outsource” I know how hard it can be!

SO… back to the topic at hand.  The latest addition to the ArtLicensingInfo.com product line is two-fold:  The Kitchen & Bath addition includes 43 new photos. It is ideal for the artist who already has the Original Product Mock-Up Magic. If you don’t, you can get everything in one fell swoop by purchasing the Deluxe Edition.

In case you skipped this part before, it is important to know that the tutorials focus on placing repeat patterns and borders on the product photos but you can use the same concepts for more illustrative art as well. If you don’t know how to create repeat borders & patterns and save the patterns to the pre-set manager in Photoshop, I highly recommend you consider working through the Repeat Pattern eBooks before buying this product.

Here’s a little video preview – you will also find it on the web page with all the details – www.ArtLicensingInfo.com/mockup.html

Cool Software Discovery 2009: Dropbox

I know I’ve talked about this before but here it is again – I LOVE Dropbox! A free online file storage / file sharing website, it rocks!

I have used it to send large files to my art licensing clients.
I have used Dropbox to share photos with my family.
I use it to backup and move my 1Password logins between my desktop and my laptop.
One Saturday night an artist emailed me in a panic, with a photo of her broken Product Mock-Up Magic CD, telling me how she needed the photos to do some mock-ups needed on Monday.  I was able to get her everything she needed within 1/2 hour. (Lucky for her I was on my computer!)

Here is a link to sign up: I WANT DROPBOX TOO! (disclosure: this is my affiliate link – if you learn about Dropbox from me and sign up, I get extra storage space.)

Here’s to your organized and creative success!

The feedback is coming in for "Product Mock-Up Magic"…

… and artists are loving it!

MockUp-CdCaseI’ve told you what it is…

• 46 Photoshop™ (.psd) or PNG files with professional photographs of stationery, tabletop and gift industry products. The backgrounds have already been removed so they are ready to use for presentation and portfolio mock-ups.

• 9 video tutorials with more than 2 hours of ‘over the shoulder’ live-streaming instruction. Watch artist Tara Reed apply patterns and learn from a few mistakes along the way! (Then you will feel better when you make them too – right?)

here is what a few artists who have purchased it are saying…

“I was so excited to receive the Product Mock-up Magic CD today. I just finished watching all of the video tutorials. You did a great job! It was amazing to watch you work. I devoured every word you spoke and every move you made with the cursor. Now, I’m truly inspired to create my own mock-up designs and market them to manufacturers.”

– Michael Campbell, artist

“Tara Reed’s Product Mock-Up Magic saves me time and makes my life easier.  With the product templates provided, all I have to do is drop my artwork onto the templates and make revisions. Now I can focus on designing.”

– Liz Revit, artist

“I absolutely love Tara’s Product Mock-Up Magic video tutorials! The lessons are very easy to follow, cover many tools and techniques. Even as a fairly seasoned Photoshop user, I learned many new tips and shortcuts that I did not know before. However, I think this product will be a revelation for beginners. My product mock ups previously were very flat in appearance. The library of blank product images supplied with the dvd will help me produce realistic product mock-ups very efficiently. I hope Tara will develop an entire series of video tutorials on a range of skills for licensed artists.”

Product Mock-Up Magic is an invaluable tool for any artist looking to license their art. Being able to take your art and show manufacturers that you understand how it can work on products shows that you understand and are serious about the business of licensing. That you are a professional. And sometimes, it just gives them ideas they may not have had looking at the ‘pieces’ (images, borders, patterns, etc.)

When you place several mocked-up examples together for presentation, add “These are mock-up ideas, all designs are available for license” – that way there is no confusion about wether your art is already licensed or not. When you show actual licensed products, be sure to add something like this: “product manufacturered by XYZ company using my art under license.”

Screen video recordings – a simple, professional video tool in the new Mac OS – Snow Leopard

One day I was chatting with @ecstewart taking about video… she mentioned that you could record what you are doing on your computer screen with the new Mac OS – Snow Leopard.  COOL!  Of course I’ve created all kinds of problems for myself in the past by jumping into new technology (especially operating systems) without making sure all the software I use is ready to hop on board with me!

Turns out, some of my daily stuff isn’t ready.  So how fabulous that I have 2 computers… (spoiled, I know!)  I added Snow Leopard to my laptop and am now re-recording video tutorials for an upcoming product – “Product Mock-Up Magic”.  It will include 42 professional product photographs and instructions to teach you how to get your art on them to digitally mock-up products.  Great for your portfolio, manufacturer presentations, etc.

“Product Mock-Up Magic” will be talking mostly about applying repeat borders and patterns to the product photos so if this interests you and you don’t know how to do the pattern part yet, I recommend you go look at that eBook series so you are ready to go when the product is.  CLICK HERE

It will be a physical product so I have to finish the videos and send it off to have the DVDs made.  My target is to have it ready in the beginning of November… stay tuned!

For now, here is a 3:20 video showing you how the screen recording works and a very small, sneak peek at what “Product Mock-Up Magic” will be.

I better get back to work so I can get this new project ready to go!  Here’s to your creative success!
